Continuing St Paul's Work

In 5SP, we looked at the letters from St Paul and thought about how we could copy him in today's world. Here is Alphen's Apostle's Advice Sheet:

Responding to St Paul

In 5ML, we have been looking at the writings of St Paul, especially his letters to the Ephesians, Colossians and Corinthians. We wrote a group advice sheet for modern apostles and some questions which we would like to ask St Paul.

Group Advice Sheet for Apostles Today
  • What you do for others is what you do for Jesus
  • Remember the Beatitudes
  • Follow the Bible - it tells you how to live (BIBLE stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth)
  • Go on pilgrimages
  • Befriend people, even your 'enemies'
  • Live a full life
  • Be humble, gentle and patient

Questions we would like to ask St Paul

  • How many ways can you show love? Candice
  • Who is it that protects us most? Aruna
  • How can our family and friends protect us? Chloe
  • In what situations could you use these qualities? Leon
  • Do we have trust in our lives?
  • How can we rely on people to tell us the truth? Libby
  • Does love sometimes lie? Kasia
  • Why is love the most important one? Piotr

Table tennis - Year 5/6 Blog

On the 24th November 2015, 16 children (boys & girls) participated in the Table Tennis tournament at St. Mary's Leisure Centre, Southampton. The players were divided into 4 teams: Springhill A; Springhill B; Springhill C and a Springhill Girl team. I was taking part in the competition and this is what happened...

First of all, we left the school at 1:45 pm and our second adult (including Mr Cowap) was Ziraq (a student in Southampton Solent University) Soon, the minibus began to leave the school. When we arrived, I was feeling excited about the matches I was going to play. I was determined to play just when I saw the table, but the others got there first! A while later, the lady (who told us what to do) explained which table we should play in (Table 1/ Table 2) and since I was in Springhill C, I had to do my matches on Table 2. I was chosen as Player 4 (out of four) It was in only a few minutes away from my first match!

The Vikings (theatre production)

On Wednesday 24th of February 2016, a theatre group called Groundlings visited Year 5 to teach us some acting skills and more about the Vikings. To begin with, the two people (Jim and Suze) did a play related to the Vikings.

Following the play, the two explained what the plan of the day and eventually it was break. After that, as usual, there was an exercise. Now, personally, I think that the exercise was amusing since it was called the 'rubber chicken'. Continuing on, we had already learnt the seven stages of tension, but this time we have learnt the different levels of energy. They include: 'sleeping lions', 'bambi on ice', 'where are my keys', 'the bus is coming in 5 minutes', 'normal' and 'mum and dad are coming'.

Then we had to practise using them with a partner. Surprisingly, Jim and Suze had to eat at 11:30, so we had to go back to class. Soon, it was lunchtime. Following that, we had time to practise more. After 1 hour, we, in groups, acted our own plays about Vikings.

The whole day was great fun!!!

Our final Viking plays.

The vikings (theatre group)

On  Wednesday 24th February 2016 a theatre group called Groundings paid year 5 a visit to teach the students all about Vikings.
To start off, Jim & Suze (the staff of Groundlings ) performed to us so we could learn a bit more about Vikings. However, even though we were learning about these people, there was a bit of comedy inside the play as well. They made all of the children laugh their heads off.
After the play Jim & Suze told us about the levels of energy used in the play and what they were.

This includes: sleeping lions, Bambi on ice, where are my keys, normal, bus is leaving in five minutes and mum and dad are coming. Sleeping lions is a level of energy where they are absolutely silent and no movement. Bambi on ice is when you are Viking play: longboats

just getting out of bed but still sleepy. This is the second level of energy. The 3rd stage of energy is where are my keys. This is a example of a mother losing her car keys. The 4th stage of  energy is normal. This is when you are completely normal. The next stage is the bus is leaving in five minutes. This is when you energy speeds up a little bit more. Last but not least is mum and dad are coming. This is when you have done something wrong that your mum and dad will not like. Then we paired ourselvesand practised them with a theme which wasa customer and a cashier at Argos.

After lunch we grouped ourselves so we had 10 in each group. Then we got given a Viking play to perform with our other teammates. Then we performed to the rest of the year.

IT WAS THE BEST DAY EVER!

Responding to St Paul

In 5SP, we looked at St Paul's letters to the Corinthians, the Ephesians and Colossians to discover how they influence how we should live our lives.
