The Railway Children - Performance by M&M productions

Recently, the M&M theatre group came to perform a mind blowing performance of the Railway Children! It was amazing! They told the story really well and it was like you were there at the time!

First of all,  Mr Perk, who was the porter at Oak worth’s Railway station, started off handing out tickets as if they were part of the play. His job was to take in all the tickets and let them on to the train. Roberta (Bobby) , Phyllis (Phil) and Peter were running around the railway like headless chickens. Mr Perk then told the full story (based upon the book).
On the day of Peter’s birthday , his father was away on business but coming home that day. Everyone was waiting and singing happy birthday and giving him gifts. Then their father stepped through the door and they were full of excitement. With him he had brought a gift for Peter, which was a train; he was over the moon. Straight away they all went off to play with it. Their overjoyed mother came back and found the father distraught since he had found out there was a spy spying at their work place and finding out information. He had to break the news that he was going to have to go away to sort this out . His mother was fine. Bobby came and told father that there was someone at the door waiting. It was a man from his work who was saying that he was the spy. He was taken all the way to Scotland and the family didn’t hear from him for months and months. Since the family were really poor, they couldn’t afford to pay all the bills therefore they had to move all the way to Yorkshire. Mr Perk helped them out bringing anything he found which he thought that would help. Whilst they were in Yorkshire, their mother fell very ill and the doctor said that they had to keep her warm and give her hot meals. Of course they couldn’t pay for that as they were so poor. They thought and thought and thought for ages to think how they could solve this. They remembered they had seen a man on the train who looked very rich and was very wealthy. They sent a message to him to ask for help. The next day Mr Perk knocked on the door with a large parcel from the man they had written the message to. They decided not to tell their mother that they had had help from a stranger just yet as she would go ballistic! However, when they did, she went absoulutley nuts. She got better and the children went to the railway everyday. One day the children went to the railway and a tree fell down on the tracks. All the children had to do something about this so they got red flags and waved them. They couldn’t see them. Bobby decided to take a drastic decision which was to go to the railway and stop the train. It worked. A few weeks later, they were all awarded a bravery medal. As they were leaving, a train arrived and on it was their father . They all went home and lived happily.
